The Belgian Grand Prix Secures F1 Deal Through 2031

The Belgian Grand Prix has secured a new contract with Formula 1 that guarantees it will remain on the calendar for four out of the next six years, from 2026 to 2031. This deal marks the first of its kind for F1 which is looking for ways to accommodate new events amidst an already packed schedule. Under the new agreement, the Belgian Grand Prix at the historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit will take place in 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031. However, in 2028 and 2030, Belgium will be replaced by another race, though the venues for these years have not been confirmed yet.

Several European circuits including Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya and Imola both want to maintain their presence on the calendar, though their contracts end this year. The Spanish Grand Prix will move to a new circuit in Madrid next season, replacing Barcelona. Other races, like the Dutch Grand Prix which expires after 2026 and the potential return of the French and German races  are also under consideration. F1 is also exploring races outside Europe with the possibility of a race in Rwanda by 2028 and interest from Thailand for a 2030 race.

Although the return of the South Korean Grand Prix seems less likely, other options like the Turkish Grand Prix are still on the table. F1 president Stefano Domenicali praised Spa-Francorchamps for its legendary status and fan appeal, noting the track’s ongoing improvements.  As F1 navigates its longest-ever season with 24 races planned for this year, the sport remains committed to maintaining a maximum of 25 races annually with the current calendar likely to remain unchanged in the upcoming regulatory period starting in 2026.
