Jorge Martin’s championship lead has narrowed to seven points after Marc Marquez secured a back-to-back win at the San Marino Grand Prix. Marquez, a six-time world champion followed his first victory in three years at the Aragon Grand Prix with another triumph in Misano. Martin, who had been leading the championship, earned only one point in Misano.

His closest rival, Francesco Bagnaia, took advantage by finishing second reducing the gap between him and Martin to single digits. Enea Bastianini finished third in the race. Starting from ninth on the grid, Marquez was considered an underdog but performed exceptionally well in the challenging wet conditions. His victory in Misano reduced his points deficit to Martin to 53.

Marquez highlighted the importance of his performance after the rain, stating, “The most important thing was the speed after that rain—it gave me the possibility to lead the race.” He expressed his joy and satisfaction after crossing the finish line, reflecting on the high emotions of the win. The race saw light rain early on, creating difficult conditions. Jorge Martin’s decision to switch bikes due to the weather forecast proved detrimental.

He had pitted with 20 laps remaining, hoping for more rain but as the conditions improved, he fell to 15th place. The championship will return to Misano in late September for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix which replaces the canceled race in Kazakhstan. This upcoming race will be crucial for both Martin and his competitors as they continue their battle for the title.
