A 62-year-old man, Ted Piolunowicz has been charged for allegedly running onto the pitch and chasing the referee during Port Vale’s match against Portsmouth. Piolunowicz is accused of using threatening behavior with intent to cause fear or violence. He has been granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear in court on March 7.
The incident occurred after referee Craig Hicks did not award Port Vale a free-kick before Portsmouth’s winning penalty in the 88 minute. Piolunowicz was apprehended by staff after chasing Hicks off the field. The PGMOL and EFL expressed condemnation of the incident emphasizing support for Hicks and the authorities in seeking justice. Port Vale also denounced the individual’s actions in a statement.
