Manchester United’s men’s team is expected to have a relatively quiet month on the pitch in January, with only two fixtures currently scheduled. However, the month could potentially see the club extend its FA Cup run and add one more game to the calendar.
The Red Devils will kick off the year with a trip to the DW Stadium on Monday, January 8, to face Wigan Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup. This marks a repeat of United’s first fixture of the 2013 calendar year, when the team secured a 4-0 victory against Wigan, with Robin van Persie and Chicharito each scoring a brace.
The only Premier League game scheduled for United in January is against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Sunday, January 14. This will be a rematch of the reverse fixture in August, which Spurs won 2-0.
Following the Tottenham match, Erik ten Hag’s side will enjoy a brief winter break over the weekend of January 20/21. However, they hope to have one more game to close out the month, as the winner of the FA Cup tie against Wigan will contest a fourth-round fixture on the weekend of January 27/28.
The Premier League will resume with a round of midweek fixtures starting January 30, but United’s away game against Wolverhampton Wanderers has been scheduled for Thursday, February 1.
With a limited number of games on the horizon, United will have an opportunity to regroup and focus on their tactical improvements under ten Hag’s leadership. The month could also provide a chance for key players to regain fitness and form ahead of a crucial period in the season.
