Graham Potter has declined an offer to become the new head coach of Ajax after discussions with the club’s management. The 48 years old who has been without a job since being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023 was seen as a potential candidate for various roles in both the Premier League and abroad. Ajax in particular had targeted Potter to lead the team forward next season but he has decided against it.
This decision is another setback for Ajax who have struggled since losing Erik ten Hag to Manchester United in 2022. Despite winning three league titles under Ten Hag, Ajax has faced instability with four different head coaches since his departure. Meanwhile, there are uncertainties surrounding Ten Hag future at Manchester United with the club’s poor performance this season raising questions about his tenure.
Several high-profile coaches including Potter have been linked as potential replacements for Erik ten Hag at United with speculation mounting about his possible departure from the club later this month if they fail to qualify for European competition.
