Carlos Alcaraz secured a straight set victory over Fabian Marozsan advancing to the quarter-finals and maintaining his title defense at Indian Wells. The Spaniard defeated the Hungarian 6-3 6-3 in 75 minutes. Ranked second in the world, Alcaraz aims to become the first player since Novak Djokovic in 2016 to defend the title. He will face Alexander Zverev in the next round after the German sixth seed overcame Alex de Minaur with a 5-7 6-2 6-3 victory.
Meanwhile, Greek 11th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas suffered a surprising defeat to Jiri Lehecka who will now face Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals. Sinner the Italian third seed extended his winning streak to 18 matches and seeks his third title of 2024. Alcaraz admitted feeling nervous before his match with Marozsan especially after losing to him in straight sets at last year’s Italian Open.
However, he demonstrated improved performance and secured his spot in the quarter-finals for the third consecutive year at Indian Wells. Alcaraz highlighted areas for improvement and aims to continue delivering strong tennis on the court.
