Heading into the final round of The American Express, Nick Dunlap holds a three-shot lead as he pursues the first PGA Tour win by an amateur in 33 years. The 20-year-old University of Alabama student produced a remarkable third-round performance with 10 birdies and an eagle, carding a 60 to lead at 27 under in California. This score matched the lowest round by an amateur in a tour event, previously set by Patrick Cantlay. Dunlap, playing as a sponsor’s invite, is ineligible for the $1.5 million prize money but could secure a PGA Tour card for two years with a win. Although a 59 crossed his mind, Dunlap expressed satisfaction with his exceptional putting and overall performance. Sam Burns trails by three shots, while Justin Thomas equaled the course record with a 61, sitting one shot further back for the final round at the Stadium Course. Christiaan Bezuidenhout is the only other player within six shots of the lead.
