The Japanese international suffered calf problems in the match against Wolves

Beating Wolves 2-1 at home on Saturday came at a significant cost for Arsenal, as one of their most in-form players, Takehiro Tomiyasu, suffered a calf injury in the process.

In a statement before a challenging trip to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town yesterday, Arteta provided an update on the Japanese international’s situation.

‘We took him off as a precaution, so we’ll wait. He’s a strong boy, and hopefully, he’ll be fine,’ Arteta said.

Arsenal fans would be praying for the 25-year-old to recover as quickly as possible, given they will be entering a very busy period in December and January.

In the match against Luton, England’s Ben White regained his spot and played an overall excellent match in place of Tomiyasu.

The bad news will not only affect Arsenal but also the Japan national team, as they prepare for the Asia Cup in January.

With the long-term injury to Jurrien Timber, White and Cedric Soares are the only options for Arteta in the busy weeks ahead.
