Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his intention to retain Aaron Ramsdale at the club beyond this winter transfer window, despite relegating him to the bench earlier this season.
A full England international, Ramsdale has lost his place to David Raya, who joined the club in the summer from fellow Premier League side Brentford.
Ramsdale, who started all 38 games last season for Arsenal, has earned four England caps but is now in danger of not being named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad competing in Euro 2024 this summer if the situation for him at the club remains unchanged.
Despite rumors of him leaving for Newcastle next month, Arteta insisted that Ramsdale still has a lot to offer the Gunners.
“Our intention is to add to the quality that we already have; Aaron is very important for us,” he said.
For the record, he was still the number one choice at the start of this season, but things began to change in September, particularly starting with the game against Everton at Goodison Park where Raya was picked instead.
