Aston Villa has secured the signing of 21 years old forward Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough for an initial fee of £8 million potentially rising to £15 million with add-ons. Rogers, primarily a winger has impressed with seven goals and nine assists in 33 appearances for Championship side Boro this season.
The England Under-20 international joined Middlesbrough from Manchester City last July for £1.5 million. Despite three rejected bids, Villa and Middlesbrough eventually reached an agreement. Manchester City will receive a 25% sell-on fee from any profit Middlesbrough makes.
Aston Villa’s manager, Unai Emery expressed excitement about working with Rogers and hopes for his progression. As of now, Villa sits fourth in the Premier League and remains active in the FA Cup and Europa Conference League. Emery does not anticipate further business before the January transfer deadline.
