Barcelona manager Xavi has announced his decision to step down at the end of the season despite having a year left on his contract. The former Barcelona and Spain midfielder took charge in November 2021 and led the team to the Spanish title in his first full season in 2022-23. However, a recent 5-3 home defeat by Villarreal has left them trailing 10 points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid.

Xavi cited the need for a change of dynamic within the club and mentioned talks with Barcelona’s president and sporting director influenced his decision. He expressed concern for his mental health and hopes his departure will alleviate pressure on the team for the remainder of the season.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague believes Xavi’s departure might mark the end of his managerial career as he doesn’t see him managing any other club. Balague also suggests that Xavi’s tenure at Barcelona faced challenges due to changes in club management and the team’s performance.
