The proposed transfer of Kieran Trippier to Bayern Munich has been halted as the German club did not meet Newcastle’s financial demands. Newcastle turned down Bayern’s £12.8 million offer for the 33-year-old right-back and there are currently no expectations for Bayern to return with an improved bid. While Trippier was reportedly interested in joining former Tottenham teammates Harry Kane and Eric Dier in the Bundesliga, Newcastle has emphasized their reluctance to sell their key player. However, a bid exceeding £15 million might have been tempting for a player approaching 34. Newcastle needing to adhere to Financial Fair Play rules, may consider selling to buy but manager Eddie Howe is keen on retaining Trippier who played a crucial role in the team’s transformation since his £12 million arrival in January 2022.
Despite a drop in form during December, Howe believes Trippier still has a couple of seasons left in him. Trippier led Newcastle to a fourth-placed finish and Champions League qualification last season contributing three goals and 18 assists in 81 appearances. Meanwhile, there are reports of potential departures from Newcastle including Miguel Almiron to Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia and AC Milan’s interest in a permanent deal for Callum Wilson who is reportedly keen on joining the Italian club alongside Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
