The Chicago Bears have signaled their NFL Draft intentions by trading starting quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Field, their 2021 first-round pick was exchanged for a conditional sixth-round pick in 2025 that could upgrade to a fourth-round pick. This move creates a quarterback competition for the Steelers who recently signed veteran Russell Wilson and traded away Kenny Pickett.
With the No. 1 pick in April’s Draft the Bears are now expected to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams. Fields expressed gratitude to Chicago and his teammates. Drafted in 2021, Fields struggled as a passer but showed promise as a rookie. In three seasons, he accumulated 6,674 passing yards, 40 touchdowns and 30 interceptions along with 2,220 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.
The Bears traded for DJ Moore last season to bolster their offense and Fields’ performances earned public support from teammates. The trade comes shortly after the Bears acquired wide receiver Keenan Allen.
