Bellingham hails Rooney's influence as the 'Golden Boy' continues to make waves
Jude Bellingham saluted former Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney as his inspiration after receiving the coveted Golden Boy prize in Turin yesterday.
The 20-year-old is currently enjoying a sensational campaign for both Real Madrid and England, having already scored 15 goals for the Blaugrana.
He cited former England skipper Wayne Rooney – who himself won the award in 2004 – as his “biggest influence” when he was growing up.
Talking to the press, he mentioned that being from England, Rooney’s fight, and many other elements helped him understand football better as a youngster.
Not only Rooney, but he also joined the long list of stars who have won the prize before, including Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, and Raheem Sterling, among others.
This season alone, he has helped England qualify for the Euros next summer and has also assisted Real Madrid in securing the top spot in the league table, as well as progressing to the knockout stage of the Champions League.
