Former New York Mets general manager Billy Eppler has been suspended by Major League Baseball (MLB) after an investigation revealed that he had falsely reported injuries. The investigation found Eppler’s deliberate fabrication of injuries and improper use of the injured list to manipulate roster spots and control players.
MLB suspended Eppler until the conclusion of the 2024 World Series. Eppler who resigned in October 2023 during the investigation was the Mets’ general manager from November 2021. The league stated that he submitted misleading documents justifying improper injured list placements during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
The Mets having fully cooperated with the investigation consider the matter closed and provided no further comment.
