British Racing Industry Mourns Loss of Jockey Keagan Kirkby, Authorities Begin Review

British horse racing authorities have initiated a comprehensive review following the tragic death of Keagan Kirkby during the Charing point to point race. The 25 years old jockey lost his life when his horse deviated off course and collided with a jump. Champion trainer Paul Nicholls praised Kirkby as one of the hardworking lads.

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and Point to Point Authority have committed to a thorough review to identify any lessons that can be learned from the incident. The BHA stated that medical facilities at the event were in compliance with required standards. Kent Police confirmed the death is not suspicious.

Kirkby who worked in Nicholls’ stables was shortlisted for an industry employees’ award this year. The Injured Jockeys Fund reported that the horse ran through the wing of a jump during the race. BHA CEO Julie Harrington expressed condolences for the loss of a young talent, emphasizing the racing industry’s mourning.

Ashford Borough Council is investigating the accident offering condolences to Kirkby’s family, friends and colleagues.
