In a WBA light heavyweight eliminator held in London, Joshua Buatsi emerged victorious over Dan Azeez after 12 rounds of action. Buatsi also clinched the British and Commonwealth titles which Azeez was defending in the main event. The judges scored the fight 116-110, 117-109 and 117-109 in favor of Buatsi.
This win improves Buatsi’s record to 18-0 with 13 knockouts and positions him to face the winner of the upcoming Beterbiev vs Bivol bout scheduled for June 1. Buatsi’s effective body work and left hand punches were pivotal in the fight, while Azeez appeared to lag behind for much of the match.
In the 11th round, Buatsi scored two knockdowns against Azeez though they were deemed questionable due to the slippery canvas. Despite this, Buatsi’s dominance secured him the victory.
