Calls for Resignation of Malaysian Stadium Corporation Chairman Intensify Over Pitch Mismanagement
Opposition members of parliament have called for the resignation of Datuk Hans Isaac, chairman of the Malaysian Stadium Corporation citing alleged mismanagement of grass maintenance at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium. Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal from Perikatan Nasional questioned Isaac’s suitability for the role, suggesting that his appointment may have been politically motivated due to his ties with PKR.
The poor condition of the stadium’s pitch resulted in neither Malaysia nor Oman being allowed to train there. Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, owner of Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club reportedly sponsored a new pitch due to the poor conditions. Wan Ahmad Fayhsal emphasized that the call for Isaac’s resignation was not solely based on the outcome of tonight’s game but rather his perceived failure to manage the stadium assets effectively.
Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, Alor Star MP suggested restructuring the Malaysian Stadium Corporation board to include experts rather than actors, highlighting the embarrassment caused by the stadium’s subpar conditions during international events.
