Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry trail by three shots after the opening round of the PGA Tour Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. Joint leaders Chad Ramey and S.H Kim lead the field shooting six-under rounds of 65. Conditions were unusually calm with Kim making an eagle and five birdies to secure a share of the lead.
McIlroy commented on the course’s ease and Ramey credited the lack of wind for his strong performance. Other contenders include Cameron Young, Ryan Moore, Chesson Hadley, Austin Eckroat and Andrew Novak all finishing one stroke back with six-under rounds.
Billy Horschel, C.T. Pan, Sam Ryder, Bud Cauley, Erik van Rooyen, Kevin Yu and Chandler Phillips are in a group at five-under 66. The day saw several players taking advantage of favorable conditions but the tournament is expected to present more challenges in the coming days.
