After Manchester United secured a late 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, Douglas Luiz found humor in Rio Ferdinand’s mocking of his celebration. Luiz had equalized for Villa and his celebration prompted a confrontation with United’s Raphael Varane.
Ferdinand posted a mocking caption on social media, to which Luiz responded lightheartedly citing Brazil’s carnival season. United boss Erik ten Hag downplayed the incident suggesting it might have fueled his players. Teenage darts sensation Luke Littler also joined the banter.
The victory is crucial for Man United in the race for Champions League football closing the gap to fifth place Aston Villa to five points. Unai Emery’s side dropped out of the top four with Tottenham now a point ahead.
