Change of Plans: Euro 2024 Squads Expanded to 26 Players
UEFA is expected to officially announce that teams competing in this summer’s European Championship in Germany will be allowed to have 26-man squads a change from the initially planned 23-man squads. This decision comes after widespread support for the larger squad sizes with several international coaches criticizing the smaller squads.
England manager Gareth Southgate who had previously preferred smaller squads has shifted his stance due to the high number of injuries in the Premier League this season. Scotland manager Steve Clarke has also been impacted by injuries to key players.
The deadline for squads to be named is set for 7 June with England and Scotland kicking off their Euro 2024 campaigns on 16 June and 14 June respectively.
