Following Portsmouth FC promotion to the Championship disorder broke out at the O’Neill’s pub in Southsea with reports of theft, criminal damage and racial abuse. Approximately 300 fans were present and videos suggest that some Portsmouth FC players were at the pub during the incident.
Hampshire police are investigating the offenses, which extended to surrounding streets and other establishments. Officers are collecting evidence and statements and reviewing CCTV footage. Chief Inspector Paul Markham condemned the violence emphasizing that such behavior will not be tolerated.
