Controversial Offside Call Sparks Calls for VAR in Women’s Super League

West Ham manager Rehanne Skinner expressed frustration over a wrongly disallowed goal in their 2-0 loss to Chelsea. Despite Riko Ueki’s apparent equalizer being flagged offside by the assistant referee, replays showed she was clearly onside. Skinner criticized the lack of VAR in the Women’s Super League, calling for its implementation to ensure accurate decisions.

Chelsea’s Emma Hayes also criticized the absence of goal-line technology and VAR in women’s football. Sky Sports’ Izzy Christiansen suggested focusing on developing officials’ professionalism rather than introducing VAR immediately. Karen Carney emphasized the need for better support and training for referees to maintain standards and alleviate pressure on players and managers.
