Gary Neville has challenged Mike Dean characterization of a “monumental error” by referee Paul Tierney in Liverpool match against Nottingham Forest. Darwin Nunez scored the winning goal in the 99th minute sparking controversy over a mistaken decision by Tierney during the build-up.
While Dean criticized Tierney, Neville downplayed the significance of the error expressing that such mistakes are common in football. Neville also criticized Mark Clattenburg comments and the on-pitch confrontation involving Forest’s owner.
Dean acknowledged the mistake but criticized the owner’s behavior. Clattenburg suggested difficulty in explaining the error and mentioned attempts to discuss it with Tierney.
