LIV golfer Talor Gooch received criticism for suggesting Rory McIlroy’s potential Masters win would have an ‘asterisk’ due to a weakened field. Gooch claimed that McIlroy’s Grand Slam achievement would be diminished as top players moved to LIV. Football legend Ally McCoist dismissed Gooch’s comments as ‘nonsense’ and questioned Gooch’s standing in the sport.
McIlroy previously critical of players joining LIV has since softened his stance acknowledging the individual decisions players make. Jon Rahm who joined LIV mentioned McIlroy’s support while Tiger Woods reportedly showed less enthusiasm. McIlroy is set to compete in the Masters in April aiming to complete a career Grand Slam.
