In Cardiff Rugby’s defeat to Ulster controversy arose over a ‘try-saving’ tackle by Cormac Izuchukwu on Thomas Young. Footage showed Izuchukwu knocking the ball out of Young hands with his foot while attempting the tackle. While some viewers argued it was an illegal act deserving of a penalty try for Cardiff, others debated whether Izuchukwu had intent to kick the ball.

Referee Nigel Owens clarified that kicking the ball out of a player’s possession during a try-scoring attempt is against the rules. The incident fueled online debate about the quality of officiating in the United Rugby Championship (URC). Cardiff ultimately lost the match 19-17 leaving them in 12th place in the URC standings.
