Controversy Surrounds Uefa Rule Change for Extended President Term

The Football Association is expected to oppose proposed changes to Uefa rules that would extend the term of president Aleksander Ceferin until 2031. Currently, Uefa presidents are limited to three terms but a plan is being considered to amend this rule excluding any service before 2017.

Ceferin’s term is set to end in 2027. The proposed change requires a two-thirds majority from Uefa’s 55 members and will be voted on at the annual congress. Some have criticized the move with former Uefa technical director Zvonimir Boban resigning in protest and ex-Manchester United CEO David Gill expressing opposition.
