Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist has corrected a false quote attributed to him by an online troll. A graphic on a Pakistani cricket supporters’ Facebook page claimed Gilchrist had labeled Pakistan as the worst Asian team in Australian conditions. This followed Pakistan’s recent 3-0 Test series loss to Australia. The Facebook user who discovered the fake quote defended Pakistan’s performance, citing their past achievements. Gilchrist, upon learning of the fabricated quote, promptly clarified that he never made such a statement.
He praised Pakistan’s performance and emphasized that they were formidable opponents against the world champion Australian team. Gilchrist, known as one of the greatest wicket-keeper batsmen, played 96 Tests and 287 ODIs for Australia before transitioning to a successful career in commentary after retiring in 2008. In November, he criticized the packed cricket schedule, describing it as driven by greed. He also expressed concerns about players being lured away by the lucrative Indian Premier League.
