Crystal Palace has completed the signing of Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton for an initial fee of £18 million which could potentially rise to £22 million. The 19 years old has penned a five and a half year deal with Palace currently placed 14th in the Premier League.
Wharton who has represented England at the Under-20 level made 26 appearances for Blackburn this season scoring twice. Despite Palace’s initial £18.5 million bid being turned down last week a deal has now been reached with the Championship club.
Expressing his excitement, Wharton stated his long standing desire to play in the Premier League and highlighted Palace’s track record of nurturing talent from the Championship. Palace chairman Steve Parish praised Wharton’s development and expressed confidence in the club’s ability to further harness his potential.
Additionally, Palace secured the signing of defender Daniel Munoz from Genk for £6.8 million during the January transfer window.
