Crystal Palace has reached an initial agreement with Blackburn Rovers to acquire midfielder Adam Wharton for £18 million with the potential for the fee to rise to £22 million. Wharton 19, will travel to London for negotiations having progressed through Blackburn’s academy and making 51 appearances for the club. Despite a previous bid of £18.5 million being rejected, Palace successfully negotiated a deal with Blackburn.

Wharton who has a sibling, Scott also playing for Blackburn has scored two goals in 26 appearances this season. Blackburn’s manager, Jon Dahl Tomasson acknowledged the interest in Wharton expressing pride in his development regardless of his future club. Tomasson emphasized Wharton’s potential as a future England player and acknowledged the lure of Premier League football for talented players like Wharton.
