Dani Alves has been released from Brians 2 Prison near Barcelona after spending over 14 months behind bars for his involvement in a nightclub rape case. He left the prison just after 4 pm local time under the condition of signing on at court every Friday as part of his bail terms while he appeals his four years and six months jail sentence.
Brazilian consular officials have been informed of his travel restrictions and he surrendered both his Brazilian and Spanish passports. A restraining order preventing him from approaching the victim has been imposed. Alves’ partner Joana Sanz has hinted at a separation, especially after revelations emerged during the trial.
Despite initial plans for divorce, Sanz testified in Alves’ defense during the trial. However, she has since removed her Instagram profile following news of Alves’ release. One of the judges involved in the decision expressed disagreement with Alves’ release citing concerns about flight risk particularly considering the possibility of an increased sentence on appeal.
