Decision Looms: Lee Zii Jia Weighs Thomas Cup Skip for Paris Olympics Focus

Lee Zii Jia, Malaysia leading badminton player is considering skipping the Thomas Cup in Chengdu, China to concentrate on improving his world ranking ahead of the Paris Olympics in July. Although nothing is confirmed, conversations within his team indicate a focus on tournaments to enhance his ranking.

Malaysia coaching director, Rexy Mainaky recognizes the Olympics’ significance and Zii Jia tight tournament schedule. The decision will be made before April 13. If Zii Jia opts out, Malaysia team will encounter challenges, particularly with Ng Tze Yong ongoing recovery from surgery.

Contingency plans are in place, with specifics to be discussed later. Malaysia is placed in Group D alongside Denmark, Hong Kong and Algeria for the Thomas Cup. Their last victory in the tournament dates back to 1992.
