Andy Murray continues to seek his first victory in 2024 after a straight set loss to Tomas Machac in the opening round of the Open 13 Provence in Marseille. Murray winless since October faced a disappointing defeat with both players not performing at their best.

Despite hints that this season could be his last on the ATP tour if not enjoyable Murray responding to criticism on social media affirmed his determination not to quit. The three times Grand Slam champion plans to take a two weeks break before participating in the Qatar Open in Doha.

Machac capitalized on Murray unforced errors breaking in the third game of the first set and eventually securing a 7-5, 6-4 victory. Murray’s struggles at the net contributed to his defeat and Machac expressed his joy at defeating a tennis legend.
