Novak Djokovic was photographed wearing a helmet while signing autographs at the Italian Open taking precautions after an incident on Friday. The world No. 1 comfortably defeated Corentin Moutet 6-3, 6-1 as he began his quest for a seventh title at the competition.

While signing items for fans after leaving center court, Djokovic was struck on the head by a water bottle that fell from the stands. The Serbian player was briefly distressed, reportedly experiencing minor bleeding but he continued in the tournament.

Despite the initial concern, Djokovic returned to the Foro Italico for a training session on Saturday wearing a cycling helmet while signing autographs, much to the delight of spectators. Fans found humor in the situation, praising Djokovic lighthearted response.

Initial speculation arose about whether the incident was deliberate but a second angle of the video revealed that the water bottle fell accidentally from a fan’s backpack as they leaned over for Djokovic’s autograph.

The tournament management confirmed that the incident was indeed accidental and Djokovic received appropriate medical attention. He later reassured fans on social media, thanking them for their concern and stating that he would continue competing in the tournament.
