Aryna Sabalenka’s return to competition after winning the Australian Open ended in defeat against Donna Vekic at the Dubai Tennis Championships. Sabalenka lost to Vekic in a second rounds match citing a poor performance.

Meanwhile, world number one Iga Swiatek and third seed Coco Gauff secured victories to advance. Gauff faces Karolina Pliskova in the last 16 and Swiatek meets Elina Svitolina.

In the opening matches, Elena Rybakina overcame Victoria Azarenka who had to quit due to injury setting up a clash with Magdalena Frech.
