Emma Raducanu continued her impressive form with a straight-set victory over Angelique Kerber in the first round of the Stuttgart Open. The 21 years old Briton who recently helped Britain win against France in the Billie Jean King Cup, defeated Kerber 6-1, 6-2 in just over an hour and a half. Despite the challenge of facing a former world number one, Raducanu remained focused on each point and expressed satisfaction with her performance.
Both players entered the tournament as wildcards with Raducanu bouncing back from wrist surgery last year and Kerber returning after a break following the birth of her child. In other matches, Coco Gauff overcame errors to beat Sachia Vickery while Ons Jabeur ended her losing streak with a win over Ekaterina Alexandrova. However, former world number one Naomi Osaka lost to Martina Trevisan in her clay-court comeback at the WTA 250 event in Rouen.
