After losing the first set 6-1, Botic van de Zandschulp had multiple opportunities to win the second set but failed to convert set points.
Frustration led to a racquet smash earning him a code violation. Despite numerous twists, Gael Monfils ultimately won the tiebreak 7-6(9) and the match in 102 minutes.
Gael Monfils acknowledged the battle and expressed gratitude for the crowd’s support. He will face Zhang Zhizhen in the round of 16.
