The England women’s national football team failed to secure a spot in the Nations League Final after finishing second to the Netherlands in a dramatic night of football yesterday. Despite a huge 6-0 win against Scotland, the team and fans were left disappointed as it ultimately proved insufficient.
The Lionesses needed a three-goal advantage to have a chance at qualification. At one point, they came close to realizing their dreams, but it all ended when the Netherlands scored their fourth goal to defeat Belgium 4-0.
The result also means that Great Britain will not make an appearance in the summer Olympics, scheduled to be held in Paris.
Reflecting on their performance in this campaign, the failure to win against Belgium in October proved to be very costly, with a 3-2 loss in that match.
An additional defeat away to the Netherlands, coupled with the inability to add another goal in a 3-2 win against the same opponent, has essentially confirmed their second-place finish.
