Reanne Evans and Luca Brecel secured a crucial 3-1 victory over Judd Trump and Baipat Siripaporn, propelling them to the top of the standings at the conclusion of the first day of the 2024 World Mixed Doubles event. The top two teams following tomorrow afternoon’s session will advance to the final.
Evans, who narrowly missed out on the title last year alongside Ronnie O’Sullivan aims to reach the final this time with Brecel, the reigning Crucible champion. Brecel’s break of 42 helped them clinch the opening frame but Trump and Siripaporn leveled the score.
Evans and Brecel then claimed the third frame before securing victory in a marathon final frame after 50 minutes of play. Evans expressed her determination to lift the trophy with Brecel and emphasized the need to elevate their performance.
In the final match of the day, defending champions Neil Robertson and Mink Nutcharut drew 2-2 against Mark Selby and Rebecca Kenna in a rematch of last year’s final. The teams ended the day tied in the standings but Robertson and Mink secured second place due to a break of 50 in the third frame.
