Newcastle secured a vital victory at Aston Villa ending their four game Premier League losing streak. Fabian Schar’s brace and an own goal from Alex Moreno gave Newcastle a three goal lead with Ollie Watkins pulling one back for Villa.
Despite Watkins having a second goal disallowed Villa suffered their first home league defeat of the season. Newcastle climbed to seventh in the table while Villa missed an opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool remaining in fourth place.
Schar’s solid defensive performance and clinical finishing earned praise providing optimism for Newcastle’s future. Villa’s title aspirations seem to be fading as they drop points in four of their last five games with fatigue apparent in their players. Watkins’ goal and a place in the top four remain attainable goals for Villa.
