FIA President Mohammed ben Sulayem is reportedly facing an investigation for allegedly interfering with the outcome of a Formula One race. A report by the FIA compliance officer to the ethics committee alleges that Ben Sulayem influenced the reversal of a 10 seconds penalty given to Fernando Alonso at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
The report suggests that Ben Sulayem communicated with Sheikh Abdullah bin Isa al-Khalifa, FIA vice-president for sport in the Middle East advocating for the penalty’s revocation. The BBC citing a whistleblower reported the allegations. Ben Sulayem and the FIA have not commented on the claims.
