Reds Rally from 2-0 Deficit to Defeat Aston Villa 3-2
Manchester United produced a remarkable comeback at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, overcoming a 2-0 deficit to claim a 3-2 victory against Aston Villa in front of a fervent home crowd.
Villa stunned United early on, taking the lead in the first half through a John McGinn set-piece that evaded everyone and went straight into the net. Five minutes later, Leander Dendoncker doubled the visitors’ advantage with a close-range finish from a corner kick.
Erik ten Hag’s side returned from the break determined to turn things around. Alejandro Garnacho sparked the comeback with two goals in quick succession. His first effort was initially ruled offside by VAR but the Argentina international remained undeterred and soon equalized with a well-taken finish.
The game needed a hero to emerge, and it came in the form of Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish striker, making his first Premier League start for United, scored the winning goal in the 85th minute, volleying home a deflected corner kick.
The victory was a testament to United’s resilience and character, as they refused to give up despite facing an uphill battle. The win moved United up to fourth place in the Premier League standings, keeping their top-four hopes alive.
