Former Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton believes the club has been unfairly penalized by the Premier League for their ambition following promotion. Forest received a four points deduction for breaching profit and sustainability rules by £34.5m.

Warburton argues that Forest’s investment in the squad was necessary for their Premier League survival after their stunning return to the top flight in 2022. Despite understanding the frustrations of the club and its supporters, Warburton maintains that Forest’s spending was justified given their circumstances.

The club’s ambitious approach including signing numerous players reflects their determination to compete at the highest level despite the financial penalty imposed by the Premier League.
