Former MLB Pitcher Jim Hannan, Co-Founder of Alumni Association, Passes Away

Former MLB pitcher Jim Hannan has passed away at the age of 85 as announced by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association. A native of Jersey City, Hannan started his professional career in 1961 after attending Notre Dame. He spent one year in the Red Sox system before being drafted by the Washington Senators in 1962.

Hannan spent the majority of his career with the Senators pitching in a flexible swing role for nine seasons. He had notable achievements including a career-low 3.01 ERA in 1968. Hannan was later traded to the Tigers and then the Brewers before retiring with a 3.88 ERA over 822 innings.

Beyond his playing career, Hannan co-founded the MLB Players Alumni Association in 1982 and served as its first president. He continued to be involved with the organization holding various roles until 2022. The MLBPA and others extend their condolences to Hannan’s family and remember his lasting impact on the sport.
