Former NBA prospect and ‘Semi-Pro’ actor Rashid Byrd has been sentenced to 90 years to life in prison after being found guilty of multiple sexual assaults dating back to 2015. Byrd a 42 years old ex-basketball player with stints in the NBA’s G-League was arrested in 2020 following reports from victims.
The LAPD’s investigation revealed a pattern of violent sexual assaults in Los Angeles and Santa Clara Counties between 2015 and 2020. Byrd known as a seven-foot-one center used his athlete and pseudo-celebrity status to charm victims before engaging in violence.
The LAPD expressed gratitude for the victims coming forward and emphasized Byrd’s removal from the streets. Byrd who also pursued acting featured in ‘Semi-Pro’ and other productions. The sentencing concludes a case that spanned several years.
