Former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales was arrested on Wednesday as part of a corruption probe related to alleged illegal commissions in a deal involving the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. Rubiales, who denies any wrongdoing, was released shortly after being detained upon his arrival in Madrid from the Dominican Republic.
Prosecutors are seeking a two and a half years jail term. Rubiales is also facing trial for sexual assault after kissing player Jenni Hermoso which she and her teammates deemed unwanted and demeaning. Rubiales resigned from his position but maintains his innocence.
