In July 2021, Alex Pritchard joined Sunderland marking the club's initial signing for the 2021-2022 season.

Attacking midfielder Alex Pritchard aged 30, briefly played for West Bromwich Albion in 2016 on a three game loan from Tottenham Hotspur during their time in the Premier League. He has now joined St Andrew on a two and a half year contract from Sunderland reuniting with former Albion boss Tony Mowbray who was appointed by Birmingham City to replace Wayne Rooney last month.

Pritchard along with Andre Dozzell and Paik Seung-ho joined Birmingham City during the January transfer window to enhance the team’s creativity. The trio is set to make their full debuts for Birmingham City under the guidance of experienced manager Mowbray at The Hawthorns. Rooney tenure saw Birmingham City sliding towards relegation with just two wins in three months whereas Mowbray has already secured wins over Hull and Stoke from four games in charge.
