During a qualifier match at the Miami Open, French tennis player Arthur Cazaux collapsed on court mid-match against Harold Mayot. After winning the second set, Cazaux fell to the ground as he prepared for Mayot’s serve in the third set. Medical assistance arrived and Cazaux was taken off the court in a wheelchair granting Mayot the win.
Mayot received criticism for his initial reaction but clarified that he believed Cazaux was experiencing cramps. He expressed concern for Cazaux’s well-being and emphasized their friendship. The match umpire announced Cazaux’s retirement due to illness.
Mayot will advance to face David Goffin in the main draw. Cazaux, ranked No. 74 in the ATP rankings had previously reached the fourth round of the Australian Open.
