England’s Steve Borthwick has selected Ethan Roots and Fraser Dingwall for their debuts against Italy in the Six Nations opener. Dingwall 24 is positioned at inside centre alongside the returning Henry Slade while Roots starts at blind-side flanker.
George Ford will lead England’s attack from fly-half and Jamie George takes on the captaincy. Borthwick has also named uncapped players Chandler Cunningham-South, Fin Smith and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso on the bench.
The selection reflects a new era for England with several experienced players retiring or ineligible paving the way for emerging talents. England’s squad features a blend of youth and experience as they face Italy in Rome.
