Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new minority owner of Manchester United aims to transform Old Trafford into the “Wembley of the North.” The 114 years old stadium is in a state of decay requiring significant renovations. Ratcliffe’s £1.3 billion investment includes approximately £237 million allocated for the stadium.

Options include an £800 million update, renovation and expansion of Old Trafford or the more ambitious construction of a new stadium near the existing site. Ratcliffe envisions a venue that rivals Wembley seeking government funding as part of ‘Levelling Up’ initiatives.

The goal is to create a world class arena in Manchester similar to the impressive stadiums of other major English clubs.
